1. Scope and operator
This Policy explains how 9572-8929 Québec inc., the operator of Map It, handles personal information when you visit or use the website, use an account, create or interact with a map, use the Chrome extension, or contact Map It.
2. Information Map It handles
Depending on the feature, Map It may handle:
- account, sign-in, session and map-ownership information;
- topics, links, public web addresses, files, text, transcripts, instructions and settings you submit;
- generated maps, explanations, questions, answers and related learning interactions;
- map creation, validation, sharing, security, service-usage and deletion records;
- information described below for anonymous creation and the Chrome extension; and
- support or privacy correspondence you send.
Map It also keeps limited technical information needed to operate, secure, troubleshoot and account for the service. Map It does not intentionally place submitted source or map content, prompts, passwords, cookies, private access links or complete provider responses in its own analytics or operational events.
3. Accounts, sign-in and anonymous use
Map It uses Clerk for identity and sessions. Email signup and optional Google sign-in are handled through Clerk. Map It keeps the product profile and ownership information needed for account features; the identity service handles passwords and Google sign-in credentials.
Some map creation can begin without an account. Map It then uses a browser cookie that page scripts cannot read. It expires after no more than 180 days. The server stores only a non-reversible value derived from the anonymous identifier so a retry remains tied to the same browser. This cookie expiry does not delete a map.
Eligibility is stated only in the Terms. Map It does not collect age, age range, date of birth, guardian answers, guardian identity or guardian contact information for that rule.
4. Sources, maps and artificial intelligence
Map It uses submitted content and settings to retrieve or analyze a source, create and display a map, produce related learning content, support map interaction, secure access and troubleshoot the requested feature.
Depending on the feature and enabled configuration, this work may involve OpenAI, Anthropic, Vercel AI Gateway or Supadata. For supported requests, Map It asks OpenAI not to keep the response for later use by Map It, but that request setting is not a promise of zero provider retention. Public websites and services such as YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, RSS publishers or transcript hosts may also receive an ordinary server request when Map It retrieves or identifies a source you submit.
5. Chrome extension and device information
After you sign in, accept the separate extension notice and choose Map this page, the extension sends the selected page’s web address, your audience and detail choices, and optional focus text to Map It. Map It then retrieves the selected page on its server.
The extension does not send the selected page’s cookies, form fields or page contents from your browser and does not contact an artificial-intelligence or transcript provider directly.
Chrome stores ordinary preferences, the current extension-notice record and one current map-creation task linked to your account so progress can resume. The task may include the selected address and title, map settings, optional focus text, a map identifier, information needed to keep the task linked to your account, status, notification information and times. Sign-in tokens are kept only temporarily while the extension is running and are not saved on the device.
Account-linked task information is removed when the extension next detects sign-out or an account change. Ordinary preferences and the extension-notice record remain. That record is separate from Terms, eligibility and the point-of-collection Privacy notice.
6. Analytics and operational information
The website includes Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights for site-use and technical-performance measurement when enabled in the deployed service. The exact deployed settings, identifiers, location features, profiling functions and provider retention have not yet been confirmed and are not assumed in this Policy. Before publication, Map It must confirm whether either service uses functions that identify, locate or profile a person and provide any additional notice and activation control required by law.
Map It keeps limited operational, security, service-usage and deletion information needed to run and protect the service. These records are not represented as anonymous merely because submitted content is excluded.
7. Service providers, other recipients and processing locations
Map It uses:
- Clerk for identity, sessions and optional Google sign-in;
- Vercel for hosting and, when those services are enabled, Analytics, Speed Insights and connecting Map It to artificial-intelligence providers;
- Neon for application data storage;
- OpenAI and, when enabled, Anthropic for artificial-intelligence processing;
- Supadata when enabled for transcript or podcast-to-YouTube processing;
- Dynadot email for correspondence sent to support@mapit.info; and
- browser and Chrome services for device-local extension functions.
Only the services needed for a selected feature receive the related information. Information may be processed outside Québec. Exact account plans, processing locations, agreement applicability, retention settings and provider deletion limits remain subject to the owner’s documented operational verification. Map It does not claim a specific region, contractual protection or provider deletion result unless verified for the applicable account and use.
Map It may also communicate information when required by law, to protect rights or security, or in a lawful corporate transaction, subject to applicable requirements.
8. Retention and deletion
The following periods are approved retention targets. They are not promises of automatic deletion. Until automated controls are available, approved manual reviews and deletion procedures must be put into operation before this Policy is published.

### Account deletion
A signed-in user can request deletion in Account settings after a recent confirmation of identity. Acceptance prevents new account activity and begins a recorded sequence of required deletion steps.
The process removes or permanently disconnects covered account data, including owned maps and Mapbooks, clears applicable Map It data on the current browser and reachable extension, revokes Map It sessions and deletes the linked identity account. The initiating tab keeps a private code so the user can view progress and eligible retry instructions after sign-in disappears. Map It does not store the private code itself, and the status page is not cached.
Map It confirms provider deletion only when a supported action and result are available. Other provider records may remain under practices that Map It cannot verify per record. Completion is shown only after every required step is confirmed complete. Limited records remain to prevent account recreation and show deletion status and outcomes. Cleanup of the current device does not prove cleanup of another or offline device.
9. Security
Map It uses access controls, limits on how it retrieves sources, temporary sign-in information, work linked to the correct account, limited service records and safeguards during deletion to reduce risk. No system can eliminate every risk. This statement does not limit any responsibility imposed by law.
10. Your privacy rights and choices
Subject to applicable law, you may ask whether Map It holds personal information about you; request access or correction; request a copy of certain computerized information in a structured, commonly used technological format; or withdraw consent where a use or communication depends on consent.
You may ask that eligible computerized information be sent to a person or body legally authorized to collect it.
Where the legal conditions are met, you may also request that dissemination of personal information cease, or that a hyperlink associated with it be de-indexed or re-indexed.
Email support@mapit.info. Include only information reasonably necessary for the request and do not send passwords, private access links or other credentials. Map It may verify your identity. You may also seek recourse from the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.
11. Governance, complaints, changes and contact
9572-8929 Québec inc. is responsible for protecting personal information. Its Privacy Officer oversees Map It’s privacy practices, handles access, correction and other privacy requests, and receives complaints. Map It reviews complaints fairly and communicates its decision and available recourse.

Changes to this Policy will be published in English and French at the same time with an updated effective date and version. Earlier English versions will be available at https://www.mapit.info/legal/archive. Material changes receive a prominent application or website notice and email when appropriate and legally required. Continued use does not automatically constitute acceptance of a change.
